Rainy Day Fun

The rain arrived earlier than predicted, but about 25 intrepid riders started off on the dot of 10 from the Oakwood fixture.  The gentle rain did not deter them or our hounds.  The field got to sample some of the jumps that the Popes have in the woods, while our hounds checked out each cover.  By the pond, they started moving, slowly at first and then with some speed and sound.  The quarry went by the pond and almost to the dirt road... and then, graciously, it turned back into the fixture, moving back along the pond and up the hill.  The field got to see them work, got to see them follow the line and they got to hear them in full cry.  As the rain got stronger, the scent seemed to diminish - as did the size of the field.  Joseph recast by the pond and along the valley and there was only a chirp here and there.  On a pretty day, it would have been worth the effort; but an hour in, with the pouring rain, everyone agreed "Time to go in".  Short, but fun.  And it was so wet, no one even stayed for a tailgate!

Hope to see you at the Hunter Pace at Chime Bell Chase tomorrow - no rain is predicted!
